Parasport Support is dedicated to empowering athletes with disabilities by providing essential resources, training, and opportunities for participation in parasports.

#CommonwealthGames 2026: Fully integrated #parasports programme.

Unlike the #ParalympicGames and other major sporting events, the #Parasport programme at the Commonwealth Games is fully integrated. This means there is no separate event or ticket for Para sport events.

Events for Athletes with a disability were first included on the Commonwealth Games programme as an exhibition sport at the Victoria 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada.

However, it was at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, where Para athletes were fully integrated into their national teams, making them the first fully inclusive international multi-sport Games. A total of 20 countries sent both male and female elite Para athletes to complete in ten events in five different Para #sports (Athletics, Lawn Bowls, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting).

The Para sport programme at a Commonwealth Games 2026 can include, but is not limited, to the following disciplines:

Para Swimming
Para Athletics
3x3 Wheelchair Basketball
Para Cycling Track
Para Lawn Bowls
Para Table Tennis
Para Triathlon
Para Powerlifting

Today day 1, where Para Bowls, Wheelchair basketball 3x3, Para swimming and Para Powerlifting is on the program.

Yesterday one of our board members was present at the @obrienicehouse in #Docklands.

Every Monday evening there is #curling and this time the head coach of @curlingaustralia was there to give extra attention to #Wheelchair Curling.

Last week we visited the @nsconvention in #Melbourne. We had an interesting conversation with Ayden Shaw, CEO of @disabilitysportsaustralia, but also many other meetings were very useful.

Positive to hear that people are talking already about the ideas and projects of #ParasportSupport.

#ParasportSupport participated in the event #GatherForGood 2026, organized by #LocalImpact @localimpactorg.

Making new connections, learning interesting things from guest speakers and getting more ideas about how to #support the #Parasport in the local communities.

"Playing #SittingVolleyball for the first time turned out to be more fun than expected."

Last Sunday, Sitting #Volleyball was introduced and played with great enjoyment and proved to be more challenging than everybody thought.

Sitting volleyball is a sport faster than volleyball, and that was also a new experience for the participants.

There was a lot of laughter, and the new experiences were positive. We look forward to the next sitting volleyball demonstrations.

#ParasportSupport founder John Bestebroer went back today to @urbanclimb Blackburn. John had a meeting with the CEO of @sportclimbingaustralia Beck Hamilton.

John was also introduced to Warren McDonald who is working as Performance Pathway Specialist #Paralympics #Australia @ausparalympics.

They spoke (Beck, Warren and John) about the possibilities and the needs for #paraclimbing. Small sport for now but growing fast.

John also met Alex who is the head coach of the @ausparaclimbingteam and Kate (Physio). #sportclimbing

We were excited to visit the @sportclimbingaustralia #Paraclimbing Para National Cup today! Met some interesting people who were very happy to hear about #ParasportSupport.

This included being introduced to Gerrard Gosens. He is a blind #athlete. He already does many para #sports. Video highlights at the end of the post.
